The firm's roots date back to 1951, when James Howe started his practice in Manchester, NH.   Jim's son, Kevin, joined his father in 1965 and John Riley joined the practice in 1975. From that point forward, the firm reacted to the strong economic growth in New Hampshire, in particular, and in New England, in general, by growing both in size and in the scope of services offered to our clients. The growth of the firm has been sustained by our clients' recognition of our ability and desire to provide superior service.

The firm, which is organized as a professional limited liability company, has in it's employ approximately forty-five individuals including, its founders and members, whose brief biographical sketches can be viewed by clicking the "People" link above.

The firm is unique and distinctive from other public accounting firms in some fundamental areas which we believe are essential to the critical needs of our clients. In spite of rapid growth, the policy of our firm is to develop and train our staff from within whenever possible.

In addition, through growth and offering challenging client situations, we have been able to retain a high number of our people and have not experienced the rapid turnover that is common in the public accounting profession. This gives us a particular advantage in maintaining a consistency of principles and methods on our engagements and in achieving a high standard of quality in our work.

Howe, Riley & Howe is a member of the AICPA Peer Review Program and, as such, has a quality control review of our accounting and auditing practice  every three years by an outside accounting firm, in conformity with standards established by the Peer Review Board of the American Institute of Certified  Public Accountants. The unqualified review reports consistently received by the firm confirm that we adhere to professional standards in our accounting and auditing practice.

Howe, Riley & Howe has a long history of involvement in the greater Manchester community. Our members and staff serve on boards of directors and volunteer their time to otherwise support several local non-profit organizations as well as professional boards and committees.   Moreover, Howe, Riley & Howe supports the United Way and numerous other charitable organizations. While not required, such civic and professional involvement is encouraged throughout all levels of the firm.
