Howe, Riley & Howe Named Best Accounting Firm in NH Business Review’s BOB Awards for Seventh Year in a Row

Culture, community and commitment to excellence keep Manchester and Portsmouth CPAs on top

We are excited to announce that we are once again taking home the Best Accounting Firm in New Hampshire Business Review’s 2017 BOB Awards. The award marks the seventh year in a row that the firm has taken home the honor, which celebrates the best Granite State businesses. This year, about 3,500 people voted in the BOB Awards competition, which has more than 90 categories.

“We’re honored that our clients and the community recognize us in this way,” said Lance Turgeon, CPA and partner, who has been with the company since 1995. “Winning this award reinforces our commitment to hiring the best employees and serving our clients in the best ways possible.”

Growing with the community

Howe, Riley & Howe has grown significantly over the years, adding new employees and promoting those who demonstrate the firm’s passion for excellence. Our new office in Portsmouth continues to add new community organizations to the roster of nonprofits it supports. The company’s services and technology capabilities have also expanded over the years, including the EnCompass program, a suite of full-service accounting tools that keeps clients – and company financials – connected to the Howe, Riley & Howe team. What hasn’t changed since the company’s beginnings in 1950, however, is the focus on community involvement.

“Being out in the community raises awareness of the firm, but we do it because we want to be good neighbors,” Turgeon said.

Spotlight on giving back

Turgeon himself is a proponent of education, serving on the school budget committee for his hometown of Northfield, which is part of the Winnisquam School District. He also works with many nonprofit clients, helping them find ways to creatively overcome challenges. His colleagues volunteer in many other ways, from auditing scholarship pageant results to collecting office supplies for students in need.

“It’s so much more than doing tax returns,” he said. “It’s about being responsive and helpful – to both our clients and our community – and always striving to be better than we were yesterday.”

Work with us

The pursuit of excellence is the same message Lance and the rest of the team share with new employees or recent college graduates looking to begin their careers.

“We tell new people: always ask questions, and no question is a bad question. We want you to learn and be as good as you can be, and we’re never going to stop trying to be better.”

Howe, Riley & Howe has an active committee that helps organize the firm’s dozens of donations and charitable efforts each year, while the leadership team meets regularly to discuss new initiatives and ways to serve clients and employees. Birthday parties, softball games and a welcoming culture round out the ways we invite you to expect more from your accountant.

Celebrate with us

We’re looking forward to celebrating the prestigious honor at the BOB Awards Party from 5 to 8 pm on Thursday, March 2 at the Grappone Conference Center in Concord. We hope to see you there! The community is invited to attend, and tickets are available at nhbr.com/BOB-Awards. To learn more about working with us, give us a call anytime at 603-627-3838.
